WHAT IS BODY IMAGE?

​Body image
A term that refers to a person's inner picture of his or her outward appearance.

It has two components: perceptions of the appearance of one's body,

and emotional responses to those perceptions.

  • ​Caused primarily from a fear of gaining weight and distorted self-image
  • ​Restricts amount of food consumed
  • Loss of appetite and creates hormonal imbalance

  • ​​​Person is majorly concerned with Body Image
  • Believes a part or  many parts of the body are defected
  • Leads to depression, and social anxiety and isolation
  • The act of consuming and then purging to reduce weight gain
  • Most common forms of purging: vomiting and laxatives
  • ​Linked with Anorexia​
